Software Releases

SWAN™ is a software in continuous development. In this section the most recent releases are reported.

Year 2024

 

SWAN™ v.24.0 (Build 1874) – Released on April 17th 2024

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • New feature: When a new process is started, a pop-up window will open, informing the user that the environment initialization is in progress. This short message will automatically close a few moments later, when the process begins.
  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • Minor bugs on GUI have been fixed.

    • Bug on the compensation of higher-mode effects on coupling slots due to the input transition have been fixed.

SWAN™ v.24.0 (Build 1872) – Released on January 5th 2024

  • Design, Analysis
    • New feature: Mutual coupling computation time is now reduced by more than 50%, yet maintaining the same accuracy.
    • New feature: Folded shorts design and analysis is now included.
    • New feature: DXF export now also include feeding waveguides back-cover layer, as well as folded shorts.
    • New feature: When Feeding WG sections with center-inclined slots are used, it is now possible to scale the coupling slot impedance for the two slots adjacent to the input transition to compensate for the effects of higher-order modes excited by the input transition.
  • Design
    • New feature: Improved antenna layout graphical output.
    • Critical bug occurring in some specific cases during the synthesis has been fixed.
    • Bugs on GUI has been fixed.
  • Analysis
    • New feature: A Project Info Text Box is now available, where the user can type and edit annotations and comments.
    • New feature: Surface deformation effects can now be evaluated.
    • New feature: The button “Close All” has been added, to immediately close all analysis result windows.
    • New feature: Simulated results are now automatically stored for each project. Available results can be then retrieved at any time by pressing the new button “Show Results”.
    • Bugs on GUI has been fixed.

Year 2023

 

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1871) – Released on August 16th 2023

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • New feature: Figures can now be saved at even higher resolution (150 dpi, 300 dpi or 600 dpi).
  • Design
    • New feature: Full-screen toggle button has been added on Active Sections GUI (Arbitrary Geometry).
    • Bugs on Active Section GUI has been fixed.

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1870) – Released on May 23rd 2023

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • New feature: License details such as support deadline and active options can now be visualized.
    • Minor bugs removed.
  • Design
    • New feature: BFN geometry can now be excluded when forcing array symmetry.
    • Critical bug affecting convergence has been removed.
  • Analysis
    • New feature: Far-field source can now be exported also in plain text Spherical or Ludwig III format (Real/Imag or dB/Phase).

    • New feature: CMD Console has been removed.

    • Critical bug in the Internal Engine has been removed.

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1868) – Released on April 6th 2023

    • New feature: A new “Help…” button has been added on GUIs.
    • Accuracy has been further improved.
  • Analysis
    • New feature: The automatic calculation of antenna bandwidth can now be performed with respect to an arbitrary VSWR value.

    • In some cases the slot model validity range may be exceeded. In such cases the software now provides a WARNING message with suggestions on how to solve the issue.

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1867) – Released on March 10th 2023

    • The button “Check for Updates” now also provides information about your software license.

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1865) – Released on February 18th 2023

    • New feature: SWAN™ will always be up to date, thanks to this new feature: automatic check for updates, automatic download and install of new versions (upon authorization by the user). 
    • Ridge waveguide slot modelling is now faster.
    • Slot model is now more accurate for all supported technologies.

    • A number of GUI bugs have been removed.

SWAN™ v.23.0 (Build 1863) – Released on January 9th 2023

  • Slot Model
    • GUI minor bugs removed.
  • Design
    • New feature: On complex excitation pattern synthesis, mask file load and excitation file load GUIs have been renewed and extended with a preview of the selected file.
    • New feature: Complex excitation pattern synthesis is now more flexible and interactive with the introduction of a button that allows to edit the mask file after each synthesis.
    • New feature: Taylor 2D (radial non-separable excitation) is now possible, with a significant improvement in SLR and Gain performance with respect to a separable illumination (E-plane – H-plane) when applied to circular or elliptical apertures.
    • Complex excitation pattern synthesis is now even faster, yet maintaining the same accuracy.
    • Bug on complex excitation E-plane pattern synthesis has been fixed.
  • Analysis
    • New feature: Cross-polarization 3D patterns are now also available.
    • New feature: Far-field Source can be exported to CST (.ffs file) and GRASP (.cut file).

SWAN™ v.22.0 (Build 1860) – Released on May 30th 2022

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • Critical bug on dielectric-filled waveguides, including SIW, has been removed.
    • GUI minor bugs removed.

    • Bug on travelling wave feeding WG section has been removed.

    • Bug on 2D/3D radiation pattern plots has been removed.

SWAN™ v.22.0 (Build 1859) – Released on May 3rd 2022

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • A number of GUI bugs have been fixed.
  • Design, Analysis
    • New feature: The array can now be subdivided in panels, with panel size and panel-to-panel spacing defined by the user.
  • Analysis
    • Radiation pattern for travelling waveguide arrays in the E-plane is now plotted in the tilted plane crossing the main beam on its maximum.
  • Slot Model
    • New feature: Slot model functions g(x), v(x), h1(y) and h2(y) can be now exported in .txt format.

SWAN™ v.22.0 (Build 1857) – Released on February 24th 2022

    • Slot model check with warning message for those models that needs to be extracted again to guarantee accurate broadband analysis results.
    • DXF export bug on measure unit now fixed.
  • Analysis
    • New feature: Frequency Analysis Summary Report Figure has been included among the analysis outputs.
    • Bug on analysis with internal e.m. engine for ridge waveguides has been fixed.

SWAN™ v.22.0 (Build 1856) – Released on January 17th 2022

  • Slot Model, Design, Analysis
    • New feature: Ridge waveguide technology in now fully supported. 
    • New feature: Slot Parameters Window has been renewed, in order to incorporate a major upgrade, the inclusion of a new waveguide technology besides rectangular WG and SIW: single-ridge waveguide.
    • New feature: GUI Visual Options now provides two different presets, with lighter or darker colours to suit your preferences.
    • Improved quality of all graphical outputs.
    • A number of GUI bugs have been fixed.
  • Slot Model, Design
    • New feature: A new button immediately provides all relevant info on the selected waveguide (such as the cutoff frequency, guide wavelength, waveguide losses, etc.).
  • Analysis
    • New feature: Simulation of the array performance over a beam steering range is now possible.
  • Slot Model
    • New feature: Slot model validity range is now automatically extended to 60% fractional bandwidth, allowing broadband analysis of the antenna performance also when internal e.m. engine is disabled.

Year 2021

 

SWAN™ v.21.0 (Build 1855) – Released on October 18th 2021

    • A bug in slot modelling, mainly affecting accuracy for low-profile and SIW waveguides, has now been fixed.
    • Dielectric radome model accuracy further improved.
    • Minor bugs on GUI removed.

SWAN™ v.21.0 (Build 1854) – Released on October 6th 2021

  • Design
    • GUI minor bugs removed.
    • Minor bug removed on the synthesis for symmetrical structures.
    • Smart convergence features has been further improved.
    • Short circuit compensation feature has been further improved.
    • Improved accuracy of mutual coupling calculation for dielectric-covered slots.
    • Synthesis speed has been increased, especially for large structures, yet maintaining the same accuracy.
  • Analysis
    • Bug on “Run Design” button removed.

SWAN™ v.21.0 (Build 1853) – Released on September 2nd 2021

    • New feature: Log Autosave checkbox is now available.
    • New feature: Full-screen Array Layout Button has been added to Theoretical Performance Window, for an immediate visualization of the antenna layout prior to its synthesis.

SWAN™ v.21.0 (Build 1852) – Released on June 9th 2021

    • New feature: Data Cursor has been introduced on 2D and 2.5D Gain plots.
    • Radiation Pattern and Gain computation is now much faster, still maintaining the same accuracy.

SWAN™ v.20.0 (Build 1846) – Released on December 15th 2020

    • New feature: SWAN can now handle 4GB RAM instead of 2GB, thus almost doubling the maximum array size up to 40K slots and more.
    • Updated User Manual (Version 20.0).

    • New feature: A very useful “Reload” button had been added, to quickly refresh the slot model list when a slot model is updated or a new slot model is saved in Slot Model.

    • New feature: Layout DXF export now include Z-axis coordinate, thus making the 3D model generation on any 3D CAD software even simpler.

    • GUI Settings: when opening the module, parameters of the last extracted model will be restored.
